Are there any Malaysians who don’t recognise our Health Director-General, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham, who’s been leading the battle on the Covid-19 pandemic?
Day after day, he impresses us with his calm demeanour and professionalism. Just when we thought we couldn’t be more in awe with him, he gives us this tweet.
This morning I managed to squeeze in some time to perform thyroidectomy for a Rt dominant multinodular goitre.
Indeed it was refreshing to be in the OT again to calm my withdrawal symptoms & meet all my OT staff. I was briefed the flow & SOP for surgery of all COVID-19 patients pic.twitter.com/dkVZt7XS4g

For you non-medical noobs (present company included), a thyroidectomy is an operation that involves the surgical removal of all or part of the thyroid gland. The DG serves as a senior consultant surgeon in breast, endocrine and general surgery at Hospital Putrajaya.
Ever since the Covid-19 pandemic, he has been really busy and probably working in his calm Operation Theatre and was thrilled he could meet his staffs.
“Each day brings new lessons and challenges for us to prepare for the worst, and I am amazed by the ingenuity, strength and creativity being demonstrated by our frontline workers.”
He added that the pandemic has taught us many valuable lessons on unity and solidarity. Not only that, but we’re also all collectively more aware of our personal hygiene and safety measures.
The DG also said that despite it being the recovery phase, it’s the most important phase as it depends on the netizens and how they comply with the given SOP. “The rakyat can make the impossible possible as there is now hope and light at the end of the tunnel to end the COVID-19 transmission,” he said.
Our respect and love for him only seem to grow each day. We are extremely lucky that in this unprecedented times we have someone like Dr Noor Hisham protecting our country.
