Whenever someone brings up the term quarantine in relation to Covid-19, we would always think of 14 days. However, the Health Director-General Dr. Noor Hisham has said that many studies done have shown that a 10-day quarantine will be as effective as a 14-day quarantine.
In his press conference on 23 December, Dr. Noor Hisham said that they have looked at some data which shows that there may not be a lot of difference between a 10-day quarantine and a 14-day quarantine. He has said that this data shows that the quarantine period should last AT LEAST 10 days.
The health Director-General then said that the virus will mainly be detected within the first week of transmission. However, a 7-day quarantine has a higher risk of transmission of the virus. To be on the safe side, the health ministry believes that a minimum of 10 days in quarantine is required.
The ministry is currently looking at a new variant of the virus from the UK and Malaysians returning from the UK will be quarantined and monitored for a minimum of 10 days.
Do you think the 14-day quarantine should remain? Let us know in the comments!
