When it comes to the holidays, we’ve all been (or witnessed someone being) nagged by loved ones when we spend our time glued to our phone screens during gatherings, right? Like it or not, there’s some truth behind those nags as the holiday season is a time for celebrating and connecting with others offline!

As a reminder of the true spirit of festive seasons, here’s something you should try:

“Celebrations are Best When Your Phones Take a Rest.” Take the Heineken® Boring Challenge to better connect with friends and loved ones this holiday season!

Curious about what the Heineken® Boring Challenge entails? So were we! After wondering what it was like to go offline for a full day, we tried the challenge ourselves which goes by the motto: “Celebrations are Best When Your Phones Take a Rest.”

But first, what is the Heineken® Boring Challenge and what is it like?

To commemorate the upcoming year-end holidays, Heineken® wants everyone to embrace the true festive vibes — authentic interactions, unforgettable memories, and the joy of togetherness with friends and loved ones. To that end, Heineken® is encouraging everyone to put down the phone and go totally offline for 24 hours during this season of joy with the Boring Challenge. It’s basically a #DigitalDetox for the holidays!

Scared as we were, we took it upon ourselves to try the challenge. To be honest, it didn’t take long for each of us to get antsy without hearing the ping of notifications. To add, the guilt of wanting to get back on our phones gnawed at us but it was then we realised how much of one’s day is taken up by their phones.

All in all, was it hard? Definitely! BUT going on that long without our phones was surprisingly refreshing. Our focus improved after a few hours and knowing that there were other people doing the challenge felt like we were all in this together!

Less FOMO, more joy: let’s normalise going offline!

Putting your phone away for an extended period of time may sound off-putting, right? But this challenge by Heineken® wants you to look at the bigger picture! The challenge is here to remind us that the festive period is for connecting with those immediately around you.

Just like us after only 24 hours, you’ll find yourself appreciating and being more present for those offline experiences with friends and loved ones (even after you get your phones back)! Hence, why we highly recommend taking up Heineken® on this very thoughtful challenge this holiday season!

Heineken Parties

Curated with Jane Chuck and Saturday Selects, the event will feature vibrant DJ sets, exciting activities, and a refreshing escape from the digital world. The upcoming first two parties will be held in celebration of Christmas and New Year’s Eve, making for absolutely unmissable experiences!

The festive season with Heineken® doesn’t end there!

To make the season even more festive, Heineken® has something special lined up at pubs and bars across Malaysia from December to January. Aptly named the “Phones Off, Night On” events, patrons can safely stow away their smartphones in Heineken® Phone Lockers and, in return, get a complimentary (and refreshing!) bottle of Heineken®. All in all, you’ll stand to trade screen time for more facetime, creating moments you won’t want to scroll past!

So what are you waiting for? Take part in these ‘Boring’ happenings, put down your phone, and bring real connections back to the festive season with Heineken®! Celebrations are really best when your phones take a rest.
