When politicians visit religious sites or attend religious events, they often dress in clothing appropriate for the situation. However, it appears that no matter what a politician wears, there will always be conflicting opinions.

The Warga Wilayah Facebook page recently highlighted how Hannah Yeoh, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), has been criticised both for wearing a tudung (headscarf) and for not wearing one.

Yeoh

The page noted:

“She is condemned for wearing a headscarf; they claim she is merely putting on an act. She is also condemned for not wearing a tudung, as they claim it is inappropriate.

“What exactly do you want her to wear?”

Damned if you do, damned if you don’t

In their post, Warga Wilayah compared two social media posts by different individuals. One person condemned Yeoh for wearing a headscarf at a religious event, while the other criticised her for not wearing one in an image wishing the public a ‘Happy Nuzul Al-Quran’.

The former critic claimed Yeoh donned the headscarf to portray a “Malay character,” whereas the latter argued she was not dressed appropriately while wishing the public well for a major Islamic religious event that is sacred to Muslims.
