[Test] A Malaysian Guide To Surviving Christmas Shopping - World Of Buzz 10

It’s that time of year again. Fake pine trees are popping up, decorations are being set up, and somewhere in the world Michael Bublé is emerging from hibernation. That’s right, it’s finally time for Christmas!

Here in the Klang Valley, we are blessed with huge malls going all out to set the holiday mood straight! In this article, we’ll be prepping you guys with a guide on how you can survive your Christmas shopping!

So check out some of these hacks and tips that we’re SURE you’d find useful:

1. Grab your way to the mall instead of driving there yourself

You’ll save valuable shopping time by avoiding the jams and waiting for a parking spot. Not to mention the unnecessary stress! So check for e-hailing ride promo codes that’ll save you precious money and time!

For instance, Sunway Pyramid has a promo code for Grab where you can get RM10 off your next ride to and from Sunway Pyramid. Just type in SPLOUNGE10 to redeem and you’re good to go! They even have a designated waiting lounge for shoppers to wait for their rides. Don’t say we never give you anything okay?

2. Know the mall’s promotions/giveaways!

In case you didn’t know, malls usually have their own promotions/giveaways that they give out to reward customers who shop there. Sometimes it’s angpows for Chinese New Year, or a Merdeka flag for national day, so you can expect cool things for Christmas too. Season of giving ma!

For Sunway Pyramid, you can redeem an eco-friendly bag at the Concierge counter with a minimum purchase of RM100 in 3 receipts. So you don’t have to worry about not having enough bags on you to carry all your stuff! They even have a gift wrapping service so you can make your purchases and get it all wrapped up and ready for the holidays.

3. CHECK FOR THEIR FREE WIFI

Yes, a lot of us would die without our phones, especially when waiting for your indecisive parent/friend/partner to make a purchase. However, surprise surprise, some malls in KL actually offer free wifi! Yes, that means you can stream videos, play games, and chat endlessly with your friends while waiting for them to shop!

4. Bring someone along to ‘help’ with the long queues

‘Convince’ your friend/boyfriend/girlfriend/siblings to tag along and then ‘accidentally’ leave them at the counter to line up while you go off and look for your purchases. Just make sure you belanja them makan afterwards la!

5. Plan your shopping trips during off-peak hours

You can shop at ease without feeling like you’re getting supplies to prepare for an apocalypse. Avoid going on weekends as those are definitely days when the mall will be most crowded. We suggest going juuuuuust as the mall opens between 10am and 11am or even after work when everyone’s pre-occupied with trying to get home!

6. If you have small children with you…

Utilise the kiddy cabs and strollers as well as child safety amenities offered by the mall. This Christmas, Sunway Pyramid wants to make your shopping experience an enjoyable one for you and your family. With their Child Wristlink, Child Safe Emergency Contact Tattoo and Child Wristband, you can get your shopping done without having to worry about the little ones running off and getting lost. Shopping with children is already stressful enough without worrying about their safety!

7. Use comfortable footwear as you’ll be doing A LOT of walking

We Malaysians wear slippers literally everywhere we go. But this time, leave your slippers at home and just wear some comfortable shoes. Some malls like Sunway Pyramid are so big, confirm your legs pain after a full day of walking! If for some reason your shoes do give up on you, fret not because shoppers can also get comfy footwear at Hush Puppies Footwear, New Balance, Wakai, Daphne, Li-Ning and more outlets available at the mall.

8. Make time to grab a bite or tapao some food to have on-the-go

Because being Malaysian, we cannot go 2 hours without thinking about food. Confirm will stop to eat one! I mean, we need to replenish our energy from all that running around too right? Thankfully, Sunway Pyramid offers many eateries all over the mall including the newly opened Harajucube, Inside Scoop or Reguistea for all your makan needs!

9. Divide and conquer the mall with your friends and family

Let’s be real, some malls are so huge that it might take you an entire day to get all your purchases. Factor in the crowds and it’s physically impossible to get all your shopping done in one day! Solution? Go in a group and draw up a battle plan on who gets what from which store. You’ll cover more ground, get all your shopping done and even have enough time for a yumcha session to reward yourselves!

10. Pinpoint the location of facilities and amenities available on each floor

In the event of an emergency, you’ll always know where the toilets or auxiliary police are. Some malls, like Sunway Pyramid, even have their own mobile app so you can keep track of everything at the tap of a screen. Way more convenient than having to remember where everything is. Oh, the struggles of being a forgetful person. 🙁
