Have you ever watched a video where they’re making some exotic food that looks amazing but somehow it’s only available somewhere far away you won’t be visiting anytime soon? And so you’re just left staring at the screen like:
So, when Chinese YouTuber Dianxi Xiaoge saw her grandparents staring curiously at beef burgers on TV, she decided to bring the food to them.
“I’m going to make beef hamburgers for my grandparents who have never eaten them before,” she said in a video documenting her idea. “They’ve only seen hamburgers on TV.”
Dianxi explained that her home in the Yunnan Province in China is very far from the town market and even then, the market stocks only traditional foods, so city foods like beef burgers are out of reach. “When working away from home, I’m always thinking about taking some time off after saving enough money to take my family out and let them eat something they have never eaten before,” she explained.
In the video, she starts her project by harvesting tomatoes right from their own backyard, soaking them in boiling water before peeling them. Boiling them into a rich tomato paste, she filters out the seeds before adding some lemon juice and rock sugar to make her own fresh homemade ketchup.
After that she prepares the dough for the bread, mixing freshly laid eggs, flour, yeast, sugar, salt, and some lard in a bowl, before leaving it to rest. For the patties, she hand-minced beef, mixing it with onions, pepper, salt, starch and tsaoko powder.
Returning to the dough, she divides and balls them into buns, coating each one with egg and sesame sprinkles before baking them by placing them in a pot covered with burning charcoal.
She then gets back to the patties as the buns bake, frying the beef slabs in hot oil until they’re all crisp and juicy.
She assembles the burgers, adding her homemade ketchup and vegetables like tomatoes and lettuce. Finally, she serves the burgers to her grandparents and younger brother.
The elders finally get to enjoy the taste of burgers that were prepared with so much love. See the photos below as they sink their teeth into the juicy burgers:
Her video has since gotten over 2 million views and many touched commenters voiced their approval of this, praising her kindheartedness.
