An anonymous sharing by a Singaporean woman has caught the attention of netizens recently, with many sympathising with her struggles and enraged by her mother-in-law for putting the woman in such a position.

In an anonymous sharing posted to the NUSWhispers Facebook page, the woman shared how she and her husband were given an ultimatum by her mother-in-law to either give up on their pet animals and give her a grandchild or cut off contact completely from the family.

In the post, the woman shared that she and her husband have been married for almost 2 years and had made a mutual decision to be childfree as they “prefer animals over little humans” and have their own furry family member.

However, her mother-in-law has always wanted a grandchild and recently threatened them to either have a child or cut off contact completely from the family.

The woman asserted,

“She took the final step and told us that if we weren’t going to give her a grandchild, we would need to make the decision to either cut off all contact with the family or abandon our pet.

“She said if the pet is gone, we will definitely give her a grandchild.”

Furthermore, the woman shared that the mother-in-law isn’t happy that she is a stay-at-home housewife and assumed that she’s infertile too as she’s 42 this year.

For context, she added that both she and her husband are in their 40s.

Her sister-in-law told the woman’s husband to divorce her because she’s ‘just’ a Polytechnic graduate

Not only that, but the woman also received some rather nasty words from her sister-in-law who belittled her academic background.

The woman shared how the sister-in-law told her husband to divorce her and find someone better.

This is because, unlike her sister-in-law who’s a university graduate, the woman is ‘just’ a Polytechnic graduate.

Regardless of all the things her in-laws said, the woman said that she always cherished them as she grew up in a verbally and physically abusive family. The woman shared,

“I have always cherished the family as I was born in a really toxic family. I grew up in a verbally abusive, physically abusive family.”

“My nickname is Zebra as a kid because of caning marks.”

Throughout all this, the husband stood by his wife and decided to cut off all contact with his family.

However, this does cause the woman to feel guilty, as she feels that because of her, her husband is going to lose his family.

The woman shared,

“As of now, my husband has blocked his family members on all social media accounts and on his WhatsApp. I really don’t know why things had to come to this.”

“Why can’t they respect us?”

Netizens sympathised with the woman’s situation but stressed that she’s very lucky to have such a caring husband

In the comments section, many Singaporeans sympathised with the woman and assured her she was very lucky to have such a caring husband.

One commenter said that the husband is very wise in protecting the marriage and urged the woman to not feel bad about the whole situation, as it’s a test for the in-laws.

The commenter added that once they’ve been cut out, they’ll likely find the ultimatum absurd and compromise with the couple.

Another commenter echoed the same sentiment, stressing that the husband is a keeper as he showed how much he respects his wife and won’t tolerate disrespect, even from his own family members.

So, what do you guys think of the whole situation? Share your thoughts with us in the comments!
