Earlier today, it was reported that a Deaf man was allegedly assaulted by the bodyguard of someone from the Johor royal family while in Kuala Lumpur. He was apparently then coerced into dropping the case (after he made a police report and was allegedly treated like a criminal by the police) and was compensated an amount of RM800.
Now, His Royal Highness Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, the Regent of Johor, has spoken out in regards to the incident between His Royal Highness’s police escort at the differently-abled man.
Taking to His Royal Highness’s Twitter page, His Royal Highness urged the authorities to properly investigate the matter. Based on His Royal Highness’s statement, the personnel who allegedly assaulted the Deaf man was also apparently a police escort and not a bodyguard.
His Royal Highness wrote, “With reference to the incident that happened at St Regis Hotel Kuala Lumpur on May 28, 2024, I was informed the following day and I immediately urged the Royal Malaysian Police security escort team to cooperate with investigations. I do not condone any illegal action or intimidation.”
“I urge the authorities to investigate thoroughly the incident where a police officer escort is alleged to have committed a harmful act. I hope the authorities will take action in accordance with the law and give the victim justice. With this, I urge all quarters to allow the authorities to carry out the investigation.”
His Royal Highness went on to emphasise that the actions of the bodyguard should not reflect on the royal family
“I am also aware that there is a movement to drag the royal institution by using this incident, but to link the actions of an external security personnel with myself and the entire royal institution is uncalled for,” His Royal Highness added.
We genuinely hope that the authorities properly look into the matter and ensure that justice prevails.
