Opposition leader and Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has promised that he won’t take any salary as Prime Minister should he be appointed to the post after the 15th General Election (GE15) as a show of solidarity with Malaysians who are facing rising prices of goods. Speaking during a ceramah in Sabah yesterday, Anwar said that he would be “ashamed” to pocket any salary while the rakyat is suffering from inflation.

As reported by The Vibes, the incumbent Port Dickson Member of Parliament (MP) asserted,

“I will be ashamed to take a prime minister’s salary while the people suffer with rising prices of goods… In Islam, power is a responsibility, not a privilege.”

Besides that, Anwar, who is contesting in Tambun this time around further promised to not have a bloated administration with lots of ministers and deputy ministers as per the previous Perikatan Nasional (PN) and Barisan Nasional (BN) governments. Speaking to the crowd in Kalabakan, Anwar also touched upon the development in Sabah that he alleged was being hindered by corruption.

The opposition leader said that despite Malaysia being independent for almost 60 years, some parts of Sabah still have terrible roads, no electricity and water supply with hospitals also being located far away. He stressed that if “no one steals money”, funds for development in the state should be enough.
