Local authorities (PBT) are in an uphill battle, when it comes to forcing illegal or improperly managed businesses to close, as it usually impacts the livelihood of its owners and stakeholders.

Taking place in Kuala Lumpur, this roadside stall owner made the lives of PBT officers that much more difficult, when they began to act aggressively against the officers, destroying their own goods and began hurling obscenities in their general direction.

With the caption: “PBT officers are only brave against Malay stall owners” and “Be strong stall owners, PBT should be more considerate”, this video shows just how angry the stall owners were, when PBT officers wanted to close down their business.

With more than 2.6m views, netizens were divided when commenting on the video.

“I cannot fathom why the officers are at fault? If you run your business without a license, erect illegal structures, impede traffic, what’s wrong is wrong.”

Netizens agreed with this man’s comment. One even had personal experience on the matter.

“I agree with this statement. I once was such a seller. But the PBT in may area was not as strict in enforcing PBT laws. Instead they made me realise the risk of spreading typhoid, food poisoning and said that a temporary license would only set me back RM30/month.”

Others add that it is not wrong to run a business, but proper licensing is a must.
