The cry about potholes seems to have no end. It’s not just about the road in KL but some Sabahans also have to suffer the consequences, despite alerting the matter to former Agong and the Queen last year.
A Sabahan man, however, is tired of the same cycle of lodging reports and waiting for fixing work to be done. In a viral Facebook post by Mahathir Aripin, the man revealed that he had ‘planted’ a banana tree to cover the pothole on the road as a temporary measure. Fresh soil was poured also poured around the area.
When life gives him a pothole, he ‘planted’ a banana tree in it.
“I feel sorry for the road users. I’ll cover it with black tar next time when bananas grow out of the tree,” he said in his post.
Pothole patched!
The post was shared on January 29 and it turned out day the Ministry of Work in the state needed that “wake-up call”. In a Facebook post yesterday (January 30), the Ministry of Public Works Department said the pothole had been fixed after Mahathir’s FB post went viral.
“The pothole had been patched on the same day. We were near the area for maintenance work.”
The Ministry also reminds the people that due to continuous rain in the area, the patching works will be affected. However, the concessionaire will do their best to carry out the maintenance works for the convenience of other road users. You can take a look at Mahathir’s FB post here, and the update by the Ministry of Works Department here.
Damaged roads are inevitable but with continuous maintenance works around the country by the relevant department, we certainly hope that potholes will be fixed at its soonest to avoid any accidents.
