Malaysians are generally quite particular with our food, which is why when we make certain unconventional food pairings, it’s only normal for locals to take notice.
One local food portal, Kia!一起吃喝玩乐吧! did just that as a practical joke, but didn’t realise that Malaysians would take the odd pairing so literally.
They recently took to their Facebook page to showcase a review on the Top Catch Fisheries grocer and eatery, where Kia!一起吃喝玩乐吧! jokingly decided to pair fresh salmon slices with coffee.

“We bought a box of salmon slices for RM27, which contains over 15 slices of thick cuts. Those who like Salmon can but big boxes and take them home to be eaten, or you can sit outside the store like this, have a cup of kopi-0 and breakfast is settled,” they wrote in their review.
Here’s the image that caused so much excitement that the food pairing even ended up on 9GAG:
But what many didn’t realise is that, the pairing was just a fun joke.
“Don’t really order salmon to add to the coffee, we are just being pattern (Malaysian slang for being extra),” Kia!一起吃喝玩乐吧! added in their posting.
Top Catch Fisheries also took to their social media to clarify the situation, as they told WORLD OF BUZZ that many of their patrons were bewildered by the pairing.
“Quite a few customers were confused so we did some clarifications,” they said.
Malaysians, you've surprised us with your innovation…Our recommendation is to eat the sashimi as is or with soy sauce…

But hey, that doesn’t mean you still can’t enjoy fresh sashimi along with a cup of coffee on the side, right? (Check out Top Catch Fisheries if you love you some fresh sashimi!)
You can still try dipping the salmon in the coffee, but please do so at your own risk for who knows what that would taste like.
Would you try salmon with coffee?
