The police found 14 gunshot wounds on the victim’s body

Keningau District Police Chief, Superintendent Yampil Anak Garai, said that the victim was rushed to the Keningau Hospital by villagers, but unfortunately, the 14-year-old succumbed to his injuries. According to initial investigations, the victim was initially holding the homemade rifle, also known as Bakakuk.

The victim then handed the Bakakuk to his friend after the latter jokingly asked for it.

“While playing hide-and-seek, the suspect was believed to have accidentally fired at the victim, who was hiding under the house. The suspect panicked and asked for help from villagers who happened to be passing by before the victim was taken to hospital,” Yampil explained.

The weapon was then hidden by the suspect’s 13-year-old younger brother, who was also involved in the hide-and-seek. The Bakakuk belongs to their 70-year-old father.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder

In an autopsy that was conducted this morning (8 December) at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, the doctor confirmed the 14 gunshot wounds on the victim’s body, including on the right chest, right arm, knee, and left side of the body, reported Harian Metro.

The police have seized the Bakakuk, live ammunition, bullet casings, the suspect’s clothes, and 2 mobile phones to assist with the investigation. The police have detained both the underage suspects and their father, and it was also revealed that the victim was a close friend of the suspect and often stayed overnight at the family’s house.
