A 27-year-old foreign man was sentenced to prison after attempting to bribe a police officer in Kuantan, Pahang, on 6 December last year.
Mobarok Islam, a Bangladeshi national, reportedly offered a bribe to a Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) officer at Brinchang Police Station, Cameron Highlands, Pahang, to avoid being penalised for riding without a license.

According to the case details, Mobarok was riding a motorcycle alone when the URB officer pulled him over on Jalan Brinchang–Kampung Raja for a routine check, Sinar Harian reported.
The accused presented the officer with a valid electronic visa in his name when asked for identification, but failed to produce a driving license.
While the officer was preparing a summons, Mobarok requested to ‘settle’ the matter on the spot and handed over RM100 in cash.
He persisted despite being warned three times that his actions constituted bribery, which led to his arrest.

He was sentenced to two months in jail
Judge Sazlina Safie sentenced Mobarok to two months in jail after he pleaded guilty, ordering the sentence to commence from the date of conviction.
Under Section 214 of the Penal Code, the offence carries a maximum jail term of 10 years, a fine, or both.
During his plea in mitigation, Mobarok asked for leniency, explaining that he had just married and had no family living in the country.
However, the Deputy Public Prosecutor from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Ezuain Farhana Ahmad, urged the court to impose a deterrent sentence as a warning to the public against attempting to bribe public officials to avoid enforcement action.
