After years of struggles due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the airline industry is back on its feet again as international travel returns to normal.
In fact, one airline even posted a record annual profit recently, which just goes to show that the airline industry has recovered with more demand for travel post-Covid.
The company is none other than Singapore Airlines Ltd that’s based just south of the Causeway, recording an impressive net income of USD1.62 billion or RM7.38 billion for the year ended 31 March!
As reported by Yahoo! Finance, Singapore Airlines Ltd took the opportunity to reward their loyal staff, with eligible staff getting 8 months of bonus in recognition of their hard work and sacrifices during the pandemic.
Specifically, eligible staff will be paid a profit-sharing bonus equivalent to 6.65 months’ pay and a maximum of 1.5 months’ salary of ex-gratia bonus.
The record profit was made possible thanks to healthy sales across all cabin classes, specifically by bookings to China, Japan and South Korea.
A total of 26.5 million passengers were recorded by the airline and its budget airline subsidiary Scoot in the year, which is 6 times more than the previous 12 months.
The upward trajectory is not stopping either, as Singapore Airlines recently recorded 1.75 million passengers in April 2023, 53% more than the same month last year.
Awesome! So, what do you guys think of the record profit by the airline and the 8 months of bonus given to eligible staff?
