A new Covid-19 cluster has been detected in Sabah after a family had gathered for their Chinese New Year reunion dinner on 12 February.
According to NST, the Mawar cluster from Sandakan currently has 15 cases so far, with the index case being detected after undergoing a Covid-19 test at a private clinic on 22 February. The index case is said to have experienced symptoms.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the index case involved a 51-year-old local woman who was reported positive for Covid-19 on 23 February, reported Berita Harian.
Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun, said that the family members of the index case have since been screened as close contacts, after which 14 individuals tested positive.
On 23 February, Sabah recorded 94 new infections and one death in Sandakan, while of 21 patients were discharged from hospital after recovering from Covid-19.
