Chinese ghost marriages are a custom that has been practiced for 3,000 years. In Chinese culture, ghost marriages are done to fulfill the wishes of the deceased, and to ensure their deceased loved ones do not enter the afterlife while single.
For the families of a Malaysian couple who recently died in a car accident, they’ll be fulfilling the wishes of the deceased couple as they had planned to get married next year.
According to a report by China Press, 31-year-old Yang and his 32-year-old girlfriend, Li, had been together happily for 3 years. Yang had also arranged to propose to Li in Thailand on June 2 (Sunday).
Though, unfortunately, the loving couple’s car had overturned while on the road in Perak on May 24 (Friday), with neither of them surviving the accident.
Yang’s brother shared that Yang and Li had been in love with each other for many years and had reached the stage where they were talking about marriage and wanted to get married next year.
With such a wonderful thing to look forward to, both families were devastated to find out that Yang and Li had gotten into an accident and passed away.
So, to fulfill their wishes, the families of both Yang and Li came together to arrange a ghost marriage.
On May 28, the families of Yang and Li held a ghost marriage ceremony in Teluk Intan, Perak, with 350 of their relatives and friends to witness and bless the deceased couple’s union.
They even prepared wedding pictures of the couple and paper dolls were used to represent the bride and groom.
Their loved ones did not hold back their tears as the bittersweet ceremony concluded with the deceased couple becoming husband and wife in the afterlife.
We genuinely hope that Yang and Li rest in peace together.
