Do you guys remember the incident where the most recent Jay Chou concert last January received backlash from local football fans after only 21,000 spectators were allowed to watch the AFF Cup due to the clash in venue?
Well, it looks like it’s happening again.
According to a report by Harian Metro, the Coldplay concert, which is taking place on November 22 (Wednesday), is being seen as a disruption by Harimau Malaya fans as the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers will be held just the day before, at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
This is due to the amount of seating that will be available to the football fans due to the preparations for the Coldplay Music Of The Spheres World Tour happening the next day.
The President of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin shared that the matter has been discussed with Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh as well as the Chief Executive Officer of the Malaysian Stadium Corporation (PSM) Faidz Sanusi.
“I have stated that this cannot happen again. The minister (Yeoh) agreed because we have informed our contract with PSM regarding all International Football Federation (FIFA) calendars,” he said.
He added that if PSM wants to conduct any other activities, they would need to inform FAM first.
“If not, why sign a contract with PSM, it’s better to go for another stadium. But, we have already reached a solution with the minister (Yeoh) that we first look at the Asian Cup qualification draw,” he further explained.
