The Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) recently introduced a new flexible account or 3rd account, allowing members to withdraw at any time, given that they are RM50 and above inside the account.
Coming into force on Sunday (11 May), members are given the option to transfer a set percentage of their Account 2 balance based on the current amount inside to the new Account 3 until 31 August.
Malaysians flocked to EPF offices nationwide for the new Account 3
Accordingly, when the EPF offices nationwide were open on Monday (12 May), many Malaysians flocked to the offices to perform various tasks relating to the 3rd account.
1 of the most notable instances was at the EPF office in Kuching, Sarawak, where long queues were spotted throughout the day as Malaysians wanted to ensure they could withdraw from the new flexible account.
As shared by TV Sarawak on its official TikTok account, extraordinarily long queues can be seen at the EPF office in Kuching. In fact, the queue was so long that some ended up queueing from outside the gate of the office.
EPF office in Kuching recorded an extraordinary number of visitors on Monday
As of the time of writing, the video has been viewed over 160,400 times and garnered more than 3,114 likes, with many Sarawakians flooding the comments sharing their thoughts on the matter.
In the caption, TV Sarawak added that due to the extraordinary number of visitors on Monday, the EPF office in Kuching had to open 4 channels, 3 of which were specific to Account 3 while the other for other matters.
