Just when you think you were safe with your masks even with the Wuhan novel coronavirus around, something new pops up that might just give you even more reason to be extra careful when you are out and about in public. As previous news reports have already established, human-to-human transmission of the virus is absolutely possible, and you can apparently even contract the Wuhan novel coronavirus by touching infected surfaces and through your eyes.
Now it’s time to add one more method of transmission to that list, according to The Star and MedPageToday, because you are about to get a lot more use out of that hand sanitiser than you initially thought.
Apparently, instead of just suffering from the typical viral symptoms like high fevers, many patients who have caught the Wuhan coronavirus have also exhibited diarrhea.
By studying stool samples from patients that were displaying these same symptoms, experts from the Renminbi Hospital of Wuhan University and the Wuhan Institute of Virology of the Chinese Academy of Science, the Wuhan novel coronavirus strain may also be spreading via the human digestive system. This follows after the novel coronavirus was detected in the loose stool of the first U.S. case according to Bloomberg.
This new development may prove to be increasingly dangerous, especially in Asian countries as squat toilets are popular. As a result, scientists concluded that the virus could be transmitted “to a certain degree” via faecal-oral transmission, according to SCMP.
Given this new development, we definitely hope everyone takes the necessary added precautions to make sure that they’re safe from the spread of the virus, whether it be Influenza A or the Wuhan novel coronavirus! Stay safe out there!
