We have always heard of instances of corrupted policemen taking bribes from the civilians, and also several other negative acts that tarnishes the name of the police force as a whole. However, several police enforcers were presented the Integrity Award for their outstanding performance recently.

Kpl Nor Azri Rusli’s integrity is clearly shown in several instances. He was offered bribery twice in a day, and he denied them without a second thought. He had caught an unlicensed foreigner driving a vehicle during a roadblock. The foreigner offered him RM100 as bribery.

“I warned him but he was persistent. When he tried to force the money into my hands, I arrested him.” – Kpl Nor Azri

The 31 years old Policeman currently serves in the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department and is awarded a certificate for his professionalism. He is one of the 16 who received the special honor.

Kpl John, another recipient of the prestigious award recalled how he was offered RM200 bribe by a suspected drug addict to avoid being arrested. Kpl John warned him against doing so, but he kept going at it. Eventually he was arrested by Kpl John for attempted bribery and ironically, tested negative for drugs.

Kpl Saliza Azrina Abdul Aziz, another recipient of the award, recalled patrolling the streets when she stopped a man behaving strangely in the car.

“We managed to arrest him and when we brought him into the police car, he tried to bribe me. Later at the police station, he tried to bribe me again but I refused.” – Saliza Azrina

She also later arrested the man for attempted bribery.

Malaysians who heard the news praised these officers for their honesty and integrity.

“Wow, good job guys. We definitely need more police officers like you to keep Malaysia aman.” one of them wrote.

As seen from the professionalism showed by the fellow policeman, there is no denying that bribery is widespread and common, despite that, they still maintain a strict code of honor and prevail.

So perhaps there’s hope for Malaysia after all?
