The Employees’ Provident Fund (EPF) today launched Belanjawanku, an expenditure guide which provides estimated minimum monthly expenditures on various types of goods and services for different households.
Made in collaboration with the Social Wellbeing Research Centre of Universiti Malaya (SWRC), the launch includes the Belanjawanku Expenditure Guide for Malaysian Individuals and Families 2022/2023 and the Belanjawanku Mobile Application which is available on both iOS and Android.
Interestingly, this year’s Belanjawanku Guide details the minimum monthly expenditures for 11 major cities across Malaysia and Klang Valley, including:
- Klang Valley
- Johor Bahru
- Kota Kinabalu
- Kuala Terengganu
- Alor Setar
- Kuching
- Kuantan
- Kota Bharu
- Georgetown
- Ipoh
- Seremban
- Bandar Melaka
From the list, the highest minimum monthly expenditure is in Klang Valley while the lowest is in Alor Setar in all the categories.
Specifically in Klang Valley, the Belanjawanku Guide claims that singles who don’t own a car can live at RM1,930 per month. Meanwhile, singles who own a car have to fork out at least RM2,600 in monthly expenditure to live in Klang Valley.
Sticking to Klang Valley, the guide asserted that married couples with no children need to have at least RM4,630 per month. If they have one child, the minimum monthly expenditure is RM5,980 and RM6,890 for those with two children.
For single parents in Klang Valley with one child, the minimum monthly expenditure is RM4,740 while for single parents with two children, it’s RM5,650. Besides that, a senior couple needs RM3,210 monthly to live in Klang Valley while a single senior citizen needs RM2,520.
