Loan sharks allegedly set fire to the wrong house in retaliation after a borrower held a press conference to reveal how they had been threatened.
P. Gunasekaren, the Seremban Jaya Assemblyman (ADUN), took to his Facebook page to share details of his visit to the fire-damaged property. The house, located in Taman Seremban Jaya Phase 1, belongs to the borrower’s neighbour.

The incident
The ADUN’s team wrote: “Seremban Jaya Assemblyman, YB Dato’ P. Gunasekaren, visited the location of a suspicious fire incident at Taman Seremban Jaya Phase 1. The incident was reported to have occurred at approximately 2 AM.”
“Previously, on 13 March 2026, a press conference was held at the Seremban Jaya DUN Service Centre regarding an issue involving an ‘Ah Long’ (loan shark). The victim came forward to give a statement and file a police report regarding threats received.”
Retaliation and mistaken identity

Following the press conference, it is believed that the loan sharks became dissatisfied and issued further threats. They then decided to attack the victim’s house, but ultimately set fire to the neighbour’s property instead.
“An error occurred when they mistook the target of their attack, involving an unrelated neighbour’s house. Additionally, they pasted a warning notice at the location of the incident,” the team stated.
“YB Dato’ P. Gunasekaren inspected the site and expressed concern for the safety of local residents. He hopes the authorities will take immediate and firm action against those involved to ensure incidents like this do not recur. The safety and well-being of the local community must always be prioritised.”
