A music video for the patriotic song ‘Cinta Negara, Selamanya’, produced by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), is facing heavy criticism after viewers noticed the animated visuals were generated by Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The music video, shared on Berita RTM’s X page, has since been described as an embarrassment to the nation. Critics argue that the use of AI defeats the purpose of a patriotic song, as it fails to champion local creative talent.

In the anime-inspired, AI-generated sequence, Malaysians are depicted going about their daily lives in a futuristic version of the country.
A lack of soul and sentiment
Many netizens called out RTM for opting for AI rather than hiring local professionals. Public sentiment suggests that the technology lacks the “feeling” required for such a significant national message.

“Are you not ashamed to use AI? Many countries promote themselves using their own animators. Why use AI when we have so many animators in Malaysia? [The music video] is bad and it’s embarrassing to the country.”

“You guys at RTM have a lot of old documentation videos archived about our country. Wouldn’t it be better to use that to showcase (our country) since the Independence era until now, rather than this AI slop that has no feeling?”
Not even in Malaysia
Others, including renowned Malaysian nature photographer, explorer and conservationist Dome Nikong, also pointed out that a clip from the music video features an incident in Indonesia, not Malaysia.
The clip in question features a selfie of Dr Chris Thorogood, a botanist from the University of Oxford, alongside a Rafflesia that was discovered in West Sumatra, Indonesia.
