Remember the incredible rescue mission by the Department of Wildlife and National Parks Peninsular Malaysia (Perhilitan) back in May to free a wild elephant that was stuck in a ditch on the Gerik-Jeli East-West Highway road?

Well, Perhilitan may have experienced deja vu as recently, they pulled off another rescue mission involving an elephant stuck inside a longkang near Jeli, though this time it was an elephant calf that was stuck in the ditch by the road, while its mother waited patiently for its baby to be rescued.

Afterwards, 2 Perhilitan personnel put a harness around the stuck elephant calf before a backhoe was used to successfully pull it out of the longkang.

Throughout all this, the mother elephant stood there patiently and didn’t react aggressively to the Perhilitan personnel, as if knowing that they were there to rescue its child.

After the elephant calf was free, the mother and child duo then made its way across the road.

However, due to its small size, the elephant calf couldn’t walk across the road barrier like its mother.
