Intergenerational exchanges normally happen within families, between parents and their children.
But sometimes, this can also take place within communities, where the older generation passes down something to help the younger generation in their journey towards growth and learning.
The 448 Foodbank Johor 食物银行 took to their Facebook page to showcase an elderly uncle who decided to donate his beloved motorcycle as his health has caused him to no longer be able to ride it. The motorcycle, on the other hand, was then given to a university student who really needed transportation to attend his classes.
They wrote, “A UTM (Universiti Teknologi Malaysia) student was facing some difficulties in transportation to get to his campus, especially during the university’s holiday period. At the same time, we found out that this kind uncle wanted to donate his trusty motorcycle that was in good condition.”
“He thought of letting his motorcycle go because his health situation was causing him to have difficulty in riding the motorcycle.”
So, they had put two and two together and held a small ‘handover’ ceremony between the elderly uncle and the university student.
“Both of them were very pleased, whereby the UTM student need not worry about his transportation during his studies and the uncle felt very comforted knowing that his once trusty motorcycle can be handed to someone who is truly in need of it,” they added.
This really is intergenerational exchange at its finest and sweetest.
We genuinely hope that the university student will use the motorcycle to fulfill his highest potential and make the elderly uncle proud.
