Global superstar Ed Sheeran rocked out to a sold-out crowd at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium on Saturday (24 February) as part of his +–=÷× Tour (pronounced The Mathematics Tour), despite calls from certain quarters for the concert to be cancelled.
Just like all other shows on the tour, Ed also took the time to explore the local culture before the Kuala Lumpur concert. Taking to his official Instagram account, the singer-songwriter shared that he had an awesome time in our country and engaged in many fun activities, including playing badminton with national athlete Chan Peng Soon.
Moreover, in the Instagram post’s caption, Ed expressed his love for our country with a simple, “I ❤️ Malaysia”. Aww, so sweet!
Ed made some batik painting
The first activity the British musician did was trying out batik painting with some lucky Malaysian fans, who are also Ipswich Town F.C. supporters, the football club that Ed supports.
At the batik painting workshop, Ed made a butterfly-themed batik painting and said that he’d be putting it up at his pub back home.
Gets clean-shaven at a legendary Indian barbershop and buys some flowers at the local florist
Next, the global superstar visited a local Indian barbershop to get clean-shaven before the show. Ed shared that he never had a traditional razor shave and he was given one by good hands, as the barbershop has been operational since 1937!
The result also impressed Ed, who claimed that it was the cleanest shave he’d ever had.
Afterwards, he went to the local florist just down the street from the barbershop and bought some flowers for his friend and manager.
Plays badminton with Chan Peng Soon and local content creators
Wearing a Malaysian jersey, Ed then went to play badminton with a couple of Malaysian content creators, Jinny Boy and Joseph Lee, as well as the Malaysian team’s doubles star Chan Peng Soon.
The match was actually 3 v 1, with Ed, Jinny and Joseph teaming up against Chan Peng Soon but from the looks of things, they still managed to lose against the national athlete.
At the end of the match, Ed gifted Chan Peng Soon an Ipswich Town F.C. jersey, which has the +–=÷× Tour as their main sponsor.
Experiencing Yee Sang for the first time
At the end of the video, Ed experienced Yee Sang, the Chinese cuisine and tradition believed to have originated from Malaysia with Jinny Boy, Joseph Lee and the rest of Ed’s entourage.
Before tossing the Yee Sang, Jinny Boy shared with Ed the significance of the tradition and the meaning behind it.
