You know what they say, it’s always the little things that matter the most.
Yesterday, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim melted the hearts of Malaysians when he expressed concern for the civil servants who were standing under the sun during his monthly address to the staff of the Prime Minister’s Department.
“Must this assembly be held under the sun? Are there no other alternatives?” he joked, to which his audience laughed.
“I feel guilty if I speak for too long because all of you have to endure the heat,” he said lightedly.
He also added that there’s another assembly tomorrow for the Ministry of Finance so he asked the officers whether they could do it somewhere where there is shade.
Malaysians shower praise
After the video of the assembly made its rounds online, it gained the attention of netizens who showered praise on Anwar.
“Even schools’ PIBG don’t care if the students are ‘sunbathing’ on the field.”
“This sort of stuff should’ve been thought of already by the previous prime ministers. It’s still Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim who has mercy.”
“It’s the little things that show your level of concern!”
From suit and tie to batik?
Apart from that, netizens raised the discussion of changing the dress codes for civil servants to more casual clothing.
“To me, there’re no issues with having an assembly in the morning for about 15-30 minutes and not pass 9.30am. The morning sun is beneficial to us, no?” suggested one netizen.
However, she added that there also needs to be changes in dress code.
“There’s no need to wear coats and blazers anymore. Just shirts, batik shirts or collared shirts are enough.”
“Hmm, maybe can change to Baju Melayu; it’s more airy and suitable for our weather.”
