The Unity Government has agreed to provide an extra public holiday to make it easier for people to properly plan their return to their hometowns to celebrate Hari Raya Aidilfitri!
In a press conference earlier, Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim (DSAI) shared that the decision was made after taking into account the official announcement of the date of Syawal 1, which will only be made on Thursday (April 20).
“If the date of Syawal 1 1444H falls on Friday, April 21, 2023, then the Government sets Monday, April 24, 2023, as an additional public holiday. This is based on Section 8 of the Holidays Act 1951 for Peninsula Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Labuan.”
“However, if the date of Syawal 1 1444H falls on Saturday, April 22, 2023, then the Government will set Friday, April 21, 2023, as additional public holiday,” he said.
Also, for Sabah and Sarawak, the state governments are allowed to declare a public holiday on the date in accordance with their respective Public Holiday Ordinance.
Selamat Hari Raya, everyone!
