We’ve seen our fair of funny drunk stories, however, this one might just take the cake. According to news reports, an intoxicated man was recently caught smashing the screen of an automated teller machine (ATM) at a bank in the Tekun Jaya building, Nabawan, Sabah.

According to the New Straits Times, the 31-year-old confessed to the act as he surrendered to police at the district headquarters and gave his statement two days ago.

District Police Chief Superintendent Yampil Anak Garai said the incident was discovered at around 8 am by a security guard assigned to monitor the ATM.

“A 42-year-old bank officer later filed a police report after being informed by the security guard.”

“During questioning, the suspect admitted that he might have struck the screen with his hand, as evidenced by the injuries on it,” he added.

“The suspect also agreed to cover the cost of repairs for the damaged ATM,” Yampil said.

He said the total cost of the damage has yet to be determined and would only be available on Monday when the bank reopens.

Meanwhile, police checks revealed the suspect had no criminal record.
