A 40-year-old lorry driver suffered an emotional breakdown, which led him to stop and leave his lorry parked in the middle of Jalan Parit Bilal in Batu Pahat, Johor, causing a traffic jam in the area.

In a statement, Batu Pahat District Police Chief Superintendent Sharul Anuar Musada said the police received a report from the public regarding the incident, which took place at around 1:20 PM on May 2 (Friday).

He suffered from long-term depression

The lorry driver is believed to have been struggling with long-term depression following the death of his wife.

Sharul Anuar further stated that the driver had been wandering aimlessly along the road before lying face down, which alarmed passers-by and sparked panic in the area.

“Investigations revealed that the man had been under emotional distress for a long time due to his wife’s passing, which ultimately caused him to lose control of his mental state,” Sharul Anuar said.

The lorry driver’s urine test came back negative

However, a urine test confirmed that the lorry driver had not consumed any prohibited substances.

Sharul Anuar also noted that, fortunately, no one was injured and no property was damaged during the incident.

The situation was eventually brought under control by the police with assistance from members of the public.

The lorry driver was later taken to Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital (HSNI) for a thorough mental and physical evaluation to assess his condition.
