John Wick may be gone for good, but his universe is definitely expanding. Caine, a blind assassin brilliantly played by Donnie Yen, is getting his spinoff and is now officially in development!
In case you missed the post-credits scene in John Wick Chapter 4, Caine finally got to visit his daughter, but his fate was left hanging when knife-wielding Akira approached him before the screen faded to black.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the currently untitled film will focus on Caine and continue his story arc following the events of John Wick: Chapter 4. The script is still being written, and nothing much about the plot has been revealed, but we’re certainly hoping for a backstory of his character.
Perhaps a story about how Caine ventured into the killing business and lost his vision?
Filming is set for 2025 in Hong Kong, and this will also mark Donnie Yen’s first leading role in Hollywood. According to the chairman of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, Adam Fogelson, a Caine-centered spinoff might be impossible without the support of the fans.
“From the moment Donnie Yen appeared on screen in John Wick: Chapter 4, he captivated audiences and created an authentic, emotional connection that left an indelible mark and had fans asking for more.”
There is currently no release date for the spinoff, but the next John Wick-related movie, Ballerina, will be released in June 2025. A year’s wait is too long, especially for the hardcore fans!
This isn’t Donnie’s first rodeo in Hollywood. He has had roles in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and XXX: Return of Xander Cage.
