1. Dolphin watch at Kiluan Bay
Though secluded, Kiluan Bay is a popular tourist spot in the Lampung province not to be missed! You can get to the bay by hiring a private car from Bandar Lampung (Lampung town). The journey would take roughly 3-4 hours. Once at the bay, you’ll need to get onto a jukung (a small boat) which would take you and up to 4 people to the dolphin sighting grounds and Kiluan Island.What to expect:
- The best dolphin sighting spot is a few kilometres from the coast. It’s also recommended that you head out in the morning from 6am – 9am.
- You’ll be able to spot bottlenose and spinner dolphins as the bay and its surrounding area is the migration route of these species.
- Beaches around the bay are also nesting grounds for sea turtles namely; the green sea turtle and the hawksbill turtle.
- You can even hire a guide to take you to Gayau Lagoon, a popular natural swimming spot located behind the hills of Kiluan Bay.

2. Dive into crystal blue waters and immerse yourself in the pristine beauty of Kelapa Island in Kiluan Bay
Just a few kilometres away from the bay lies Kelapa Island a small and uninhabited island. The island is roughly 15 minutes away from Kiluan bay and is accessible only via boat.What to expect:
- Pristine white-sand beaches perfect for beach bums to laze around.
- The crystal blue waters are also suitable for snorkeling where you’ll be able to spot coral reefs and other aquatic species.
- There’s even a secluded lagoon called Dodo lagoon which is another popular swimming spot tucked away in the jungles.
3. Observe elephants at Way Kambas National Park
If you’re a nature or animal lover, then a trip to Way Kambas National park is another spot which needs to be on your travel itinerary!What to expect:
- The park is a sanctuary for endangered Sumatran elephants, tigers, and even rhinoceroses.
- Take a canoe ride at Way Kanan river and spot crocodiles as you explore the waterway.
- You’ll also be able to spot siamangs (gibbons which are native to Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand) and other exotic birds as you trek through the park’s lush tropical forests.
Getting there: Take a bus from Rajabasa Bus Terminal at Bandar Lampung to Way Jepara. Get off Pasar Tridatu and take an ojek to the park’s entrance. Alternatively, it’s a good idea to hire your own private car as the last bus service back to Rajabasa terminal is at 3pm Indonesian time.
4. Take a refreshing dip at Putri Malu Waterfall
If you think Bali is the only destination in Indonesia famed for its waterfalls, think again! Putri Malu waterfall is a must-experience for nature lovers.What to expect:
- The waterfall is 80 metres and gets its name from its rocks which resembles the back of a lady.
- The waterfall is surrounded in a lush tropical forest and is an ideal location to swim as its currents are not strong. It’s also a popular spot to capture plenty of IG-worthy photographs!
- It’s a lesser known tourist attraction making it perfect for anyone looking to take a dip sans having to deal with other tourists.

5. Take a day trip to Tanjung Setia Beach and catch thrilling events such as the Krui Pro World Surfing League
Albeit being quite a distance away from the city centre, Tanjung Setia Beach is a popular tourist destination with loads to offer.What to expect:
- The beach is located in the Pesisir Barat Regency which is home to some 21 surfing spots.
- Clear blue waters which are perfect for snorkeling and reef walking.
- If you’ve always wanted to surf, then the waves at Tanjung Setia beach will not disappoint which is praised as being one of the best in the region.
- The beach will also be home to the 2019 Krui Pro World Surfing Championship happening from April 29 to May 4. So, be sure you don’t miss out on the event!
