Malaysia has a rich history when it comes to mining. Tin mining is not only responsible for putting Malaysia on the world map but also contributed to the rich culture and history we have today.
Believed to be one of Malaysia’s biggest tin dredge, a disused unit is set to be the next tourist hotspot after it was bought by the Sepang Municipal Council, and let me tell you the images of the location looks stunning!
Costing more than RM10 million, the tin dredge will be a part of the Mining and Dredging Museum attraction.
Historically, the Sri Banting Dredge (the name of the ship) was built by Timah Langat Holdings Bhd in 1974, weighs 5,000 tonnes, has a digging depth of 30.5m and bucket capacity of 680 litres.
Calling it a national treasure, the Sri Banting will be the second fully restored tin dredge after the Tanjung Tualang TT5 in Perak, which operated from 1938 to 1982.
Commenting on the Tweet, one netizen mentioned: “This is the U-Boat museum in Bemerhaven. The tickets are priced at 3.5 Euros. With the right publicity, the Sri Banting can generate revenue for locals in the area.”
