A 44-year-old woman was brutally murdered and dismembered in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, shocking the nation when the main suspects were revealed to be a 71-year-old man and his 19-year-old son.
According to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), initial investigations revealed that a personal dispute involving engagement money worth RM7,000 was the motive behind the murder. In a separate update, Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun said the arrested senior citizen was the victim’s ex-fiancé, who was unhappy that she had married someone else.

Jealousy and dissatisfaction led to the murder
Datuk Jauteh added that the police believe jealousy and dissatisfaction towards the victim were the primary motives. Witnesses reported seeing the victim running out of a house in distress before being dragged back inside by a man.
According to him, the suspect and the victim had been engaged, but during the engagement period, the victim used the suspect’s money, approximately RM7,000, and the two never married. However, they continued to stay in contact.
“The victim married someone else, which made the suspect jealous about what was happening in their relationship. This led to an argument and eventually the murder,” Datuk Jauteh said, as reported by Sinar Harian.
As of the time of writing (14 February), PDRM confirmed that the suspect had confessed to dismembering the victim, while his son was also present at the scene.

“Mama has paid the RM7,000, but the man persistently disturbed her.”
Last night (13 February), a man claiming to be the victim’s son issued a clarification on TikTok, saying that his mother had already returned the engagement money to the 71-year-old suspect, who also agreed that the wedding would not proceed.
He said that during the three-month engagement period, his mother and the suspect often argued. Eventually, they decided to call it off due to incompatibility, and both families mutually agreed to cancel the wedding plans.

Despite the RM7,000 being settled, the suspect allegedly continued to harass the victim by calling her using different phone numbers. The son said he had advised his mother to stop responding to him, and she complied.
On Tuesday (10 February), the victim attended a wedding and later returned home. She then went out again, telling her son she was meeting someone regarding a matter. She never returned home, and attempts to contact her went unanswered.
