With more than 5 million cases, Brazil currently stands in third place for highest Covid-19 cases. With this severity, you’d expect the whole government to pool their resources and solve their country’s crisis but however, it turns out there has been some “dirty” business going on.
Brazilian lawmaker, Chico Rodrigues, was forced to resign from the Senate after the police found cash hidden in his UNDERWEAR during a raid, according to AA.
The raid was carried out following allegations of misappropriation of R$20 million reais (about RM14.5 million) of public funds to fight the coronavirus. R$30,000 (about RM20,7000) were found inside the congressman’s house while the rest of the money was found tucked into his underwear.
Rodrigues said how embarrassing this was and that he will prove he has no involvement with corruption.
“My home was invaded for having done my job as a lawmaker, getting resources for the state to combat COVID-19. I believe in justice and I will prove that I have nothing to do with any illicit act.”
Rodrigues represents the state of Roraima in the Senate and has been chosen as deputy leader of Brazilian President, President Jair Bolsonaro’s administration. The President said that the raid was evidence his government will fight corruption irregardless of who it is.
Next time maybe just hide your money in a safe? We pity the police officers who had to literally rummage through a man’s dirty laundry!
