Xiao Long Bao or soup dumplings are a local favourite, but eating these mouth-watering (literally :P) dumplings can be a little tricky.
While some people are masters at the art of eating soup dumplings, first-timers who don’t know how to eat Xiao Long Bao will often end up burning their tongues with the scalding hot soup that pours out of the dumplings. All that precious soup! :'(
Seeing the anguish of dim sum lovers all across the world at the sight of a wasted dumpling, a Din Tai Fung chef decided to put an end to our misery and teach the masses the proper way to eat Xiao Long Bao. And, it’s not by picking up the whole dumpling with your chopsticks.
Hence, without further ado, here are the chef’s step-by-step instructions on how to savour Xiao Long Bao properly, without burning our tongues and throats.
1. Pick up the dumpling by the tip and dump it into the soy and vinegar sauce.
2. After that, put it on the spoon and poke a little hole at the bottom of the dumpling to get all that delicious broth out. Then, drink that well-seasoned soup.
Delish!
3. Finally, put some ginger on the dumpling and then, slowly savour it.
Yums!
It’s quite easy, right?
