Despite our Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak’s recent disapproval for tolls, it appears that we are bound to see more toll booths within the Klang Valley by the end of this decade, reported Malaysiakini.
By 2020, there would at least be six more tolls around the Klang Valley that will be added along the two new upcoming highways – Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (Dash) and Sungai Besi-Ulu Klang Elevated Expressway (Suke).
The three first tolls that will be along Dash are located at:
- Denai Alam
- RRIM
- Mutiara Damansara
Meanwhile, the remaining three tolls that will be built along Suke are at these areas:
- Alam Damai
- Bukit Teratai
- Ampang
The Dash and Suke Highway will connect to all busy areas as they will be linked up with existing highway systems within KL – Dash to Shah Alam and Batu Arang while Suke to Sungai Besi, Cheras, Pandan, Ampang and Ulu Klang. Hmm… wouldn’t the highways be even more convenient without the tolls?
However, prior to this, our PM shared his dislike for the excessive tolls last Thursday (22 February 2018), at a live Budget 2018 sharing session at UKM, Bangi. He claimed that unlike his predecessor, he isn’t a fan of tolls and think of it to be a nuisance.
“My predecessor was a great believer in tolls. I don’t like tolls, that’s why the Pan Borneo Highway will not have tolls and we have abolished toll collections for Batu Tiga, Sungai Rasau, Bukit Kayu Hitam and Eastern Dispersal Link,” he said.
He also added that he would try to abolish tolls whenever he can.
“I don’t believe if we charge tolls on a daily basis, it’s good for the rakyat. No, I don’t believe that. If North-South Highway, KL-Karak Highway, then yes, since you only use it once in a while. But if you toll every day, two times, four times, anyone would be irritated,” he said.
Well, we do not disagree.
Then, he finally said that he will unravel legacy problems and anything that is not in the interest of Malaysians.
