Previously, we shared the Government’s proposal of building new concept schools consisting of between 10 and 17 floors around the city, as asserted by the Minister of the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa.
However, the proposed high-rise school buildings were met with mixed reactions from the public, many of whom believe that such a concept is not a wise idea, saying that the cons outweighed the pros.
Prime Minister announced that the multi-storey school initiative will be introduced

Now, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has confirmed that the multi-storey initiative will be introduced as an initiative to address overcrowding in urban areas.
Taking to his official Facebook page, Anwar elaborated on the outcome of a high-level management meeting he had with the Ministry of Education yesterday (20 March).

The Prime Minister asserted that the multi-storey school initiative will be implemented in collaboration with corporate strategic partners.
He touted the initiative as being able to optimise the use of educational resources and infrastructure and ensure a more conducive learning environment for students and teachers.

Meanwhile, MOE in a statement, as shared by BERNAMA, announced that the pilot project for the multi-storey schools will be launched this year in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Penang.
MOE asserted,
“The multi-storey initiative, in collaboration with corporate strategic partners, aims to alleviate overcrowding.
“This approach reduces costs while ensuring the best infrastructure and access to education.”

Previously, Dr Zaliha said that the Federal Territories Department (JWP) has identified 139 sites with an area of 1,228.95 hectares for the construction of projects that will be carried out through redevelopment in the future.
The development would be carried out in line with the Kuala Lumpur Structure Plan 2040 (PSKL2040) and the Draft Kuala Lumpur Local Plan 2040 (DPTKL2040).
She added that the up to 17-storey school building concept is widely used in Australia, which is also equipped with sports and fields and recreational areas.
