More than four people will now be allowed to sit at the same table in restaurants, according to an announcement made by Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri, at a live press conference held in Putrajaya today (17th June).

The lift on the “maximum four-per-table” rule applies for members of the public who wish to dine out in restaurants.

“As long as there is social distancing, you can (sit more than four-per-table). If the table is larger and can fit 10, 10 (can sit at the table),” said the minister in a statement recorded by Malaysiakini.

The previous standard operating procedure (SOPs) of limiting 4 people to a large table will no longer apply. However, Ismail Sabri stressed on the importance of ensuring distance was maintained between each dining patron.

At least now you can enjoy meals with more than just four friends at a table! Be sure to keep a safe social distance though.
