Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has taken swift action to tackle cleanliness issues in the city after receiving a reprimand from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim.
Cleanup efforts focused on Jalan Gallagher, addressing problems like uncollected garbage, clogged drains, and disturbances caused by wild monkeys.

“Immediate clean-up efforts are being carried out”
In a Facebook post, DBKL said that as the responsible local authority, they’ve launched immediate and comprehensive efforts to tackle the issue in collaboration with relevant agencies.
SWCorp and Alam Flora have been instructed to improve both the quality and frequency of cleaning works in the affected area.
“A temporary waste collection site, identified as the main source of filth and monkey disturbances, has also been ordered to close. Immediate clean-up efforts are being carried out, including drain flushing, grass and bush cutting, tree branch trimming to clear pathways, removal of rotting branches, and road washing to ensure a cleaner and safer environment for residents,” the statement read.
DBKL added that new traps will be installed right away, and monitoring efforts will be stepped up.

“DBKL expresses its gratitude to His Majesty for his concern”
DBKL has also taken steps to improve solid waste management by ordering the replacement of existing rubbish bins with sturdier, animal-proof versions.
Additionally, individual bins will be distributed to each household to allow for direct door-to-door waste collection, reducing exposed trash that often attracts wild animals.
“DBKL is also working closely with the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (PERHILITAN) to handle the recurring wild monkey issue in the area. PERHILITAN had previously placed traps at key locations such as near garbage bins, government officials’ residences, and even the National Palace.
In line with Sultan Ibrahim’s directive, DBKL is also carrying out tree trimming and landscape improvements along Jalan Gallagher to enhance the area’s appearance and ensure public safety.
