Just like your friends who can’t seem to make up their mind on what to eat during lunch, the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) seems to be suffering from the same condition as well.

At first, DBKL was adamant on remaining with the midnight closing time despite recommendations made by the National Security Council (MKN) and Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, that businesses can remain open until 2am.

However, on 13 September, The Federal Territories Ministry with the cooperation of Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), has agreed that eateries and convenience stores in Kuala Lumpur can now be opened until 2am as per initial suggestions by MKN.

Bernama reported that Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said he has discussed the issue with Kuala Lumpur Mayor, Datuk Nor Hisham A Dahlan regarding the relaxation and the losses it will cause traders if businesses aren’t allowed longer opening hours.

“If the businessmen do not threaten security which has been evaluated by MKN, I agree that cityhall (DBKL) allow opening to 2 am. But the SOP should be fully complied with.”
