Cursing Will Batal Your Puasa & Other Misconceptions About Ramadan Some Non-Muslims Still Believe

If you’re a Muslim in Malaysia, questions such as ”you puasa confirm will lose weight kan?” or “eh, you puasa cannot brush your teeth right?” are all too familiar every time we enter the holy month of Ramadan. In fact, sometimes these questions can get a bit ridiculous and we wonder how our friends got all these misconceptions in the first place! Don’t believe us? 1. You can’t be ‘intimate’ with your spouse for the whole month

Okay, so how did this misconception come up in the first place? Of course, you can have that ‘special time’ with your spouse lah, just don’t do it during the day when you’re fasting. After you buka puasa, want to buka everything else also can! 😛

Make sure you guys are in a halal relationship ie: married first okay!

2. You will lose weight when you puasa

Well, if you’re not eating from dawn to dusk, confirm will lose weight right? If only that was true. While it is possible to lose weight during Ramadan, the temptations to add on the flab and fats are even tougher with all the bazaar Ramadans and buka puasa buffets out there!

That’s why instead of losing weight, most of the time we end up with extra inches around our waists when Hari Raya is here.

3. Cursing or saying bad words voids your puasa

Okay, you can’t expect us to suddenly be an Ustaz or Ustazah just because we’re fasting right? Sometimes we do blurb out the occasional curse word and in no way or form does the religion condone that, but it doesn’t actually batal our puasa lah!

It is only considered makruh, or detestable in the eyes of God which lessens our fasting but doesn’t actually void it.

4. You can’t celebrate Hari Raya if you don’t puasa for the whole Ramadan

Well, is there any pre-requisites for celebrating a festive day though? I mean, who’s gonna check if we puasa the whole time or not 😛
