In regards to the case of Johor regent Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim’s escort punching a deaf e-hailing driver, Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain last shared that his party is still waiting for further instructions from the Attorney-General’s Department.
This was 3 weeks ago.
Unable to accept that nothing is being done to bring justice for the deaf e-hailing driver, Lawyers for Liberty along with a crowd of people had gathered outside of the Prime Minister’s office in Putrajaya yesterday (September 5) to demand that Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, step in. A memorandum was also surrendered.
Taking to their X account, Lawyers for Liberty wrote, “Happening now at PM’s office! We’ve gathered to demand justice for Ong Ing Keong.”
The people who gathered outside of the Prime Minister’s office held up various signs to show their solidarity with the deaf e-hailing driver who was assaulted.
Among the signs were:
- Bullying is not the solution. Justice for OKU and the deaf!
- The safety of deaf drivers is our responsibility.
- Deaf drivers are also human. Provide justice!
- Deaf drivers, too, have the right to be respected and protected.
We genuinely hope that the authorities will step up by getting the Attorney-General’s Department to speed up their process and bring forth charges against the escort who punched the deaf e-hailing driver.
