Recently, a couple in India were arrested after allegedly selling off their eight-month-old son to buy an iPhone as claimed by the police.

According to the Indian Express, the couple did so because they had wanted to shoot reels after buying the expensive phone.

The police have arrested the mother and the woman who bought the baby, officials said, while the infant’s father is on the run and a search is on to arrest him.

A senior official from the Barrackpore police commissionerate said the couple’s child had been missing since Saturday, but they did not file any missing complaint with the police.

The local residents had gotten suspicious after they found the couple having a brand new iPhone and reported the matter to the police.

“After interrogation, the mother admitted to the crime and informed that she and her husband wanted to use the money to take trips across the state so that they could create content for Instagram reels.”

The police rescued the infant from a resident in the same district.

Meanwhile, it was reported that the father had also tried to sell their seven-year-old daughter in the past, but the plan did not materialise.
