A Malaysian woman had to experience the horror of finding her pictures being misused online, thanks to the irresponsible culprit who turned her images into nudes using Artificial Intelligence (AI).
In her viral X post @elybaeraq, Elyana, who is also a cosplayer said that she had finally identified the mastermind behind those dirty works and had lodged a police report against the perpetrator. Elyana also pointed out that the person who took the time to doctor her pictures using AI also has the same modus operandi on other victims, including women in hijab and minors.
Her AI-generated pictures were sold for RM18 per album, with the initial price set at RM24
In her police report which was lodged on January 20, Elyana said she suspected that the culprit stole her pictures from her Instagram and TikTok accounts.
“I have never taken or given anyone my nudes.”
The cosplayer also said she decided to make this matter viral in hopes of spreading awareness, especially when she was not the only victim of the misuse of AI.
“I am aware that being a cosplayer, I’m bound to face these harrassment but it is ILLEGAL to edit and sell nudes.”
“I have always been against doing NSFW (Not Suitable For Work) stuff. I’m just a cosplayer who likes being herself.”
She hopes others in similar situations will make a report too
In one of Elyana’s recent Instagram stories and a post this morning (January 24), she highlighted her reason for bringing the matter to the attention of the authorities, which was to spread awareness and hope those who are also victims can make a report too.
“To anyone who has been a victim of inappropriate photo edits or similar situations, please don’t hesitate to report it and take action. You deserve justice, and you are NOT alone, your voice matters!”
In a brief conversation with WORLD OF BUZZ, Elyana said she does not personally know the culprit, and said that there is probably more than 1 person behind the scene.
“He’s a stranger that has been editing my photos and selling them, including the photos of influencers.”
“I have only managed to catch him for now after spending a few months finding the culprits. There is a lot of people like him,” Elyana told WORLD OF BUZZ.
Elyana also reminded the public that despite being a cosplayer, it has never been a green light for anyone to treat her as they please.
“Remember, COSPLAY is NOT CONSENT.”
In an official statement by PDRM in Petaling Jaya, the police confirmed that they are currently investigating the matter.
