This is not something you hear about every day! Recently, a few low-level convicts have put their criminal skills to good use and became the heroes of the day after they saved a baby girl.
This incident happened in Pasco County, near Tampa, Florida on February 14 when a one-year-old baby girl got accidentally locked in a car, CNN reports. Apparently, the baby’s father had strapped her into the car seat at the back of their Chevy Tahoe and then tossed the car keys to the front seat.
However, he forgot about it and when he closed the car door, he realised that the SUV was locked and his daughter was trapped inside. Five inmates who were repairing medians nearby and their supervising police officers heard the couple’s cries for help so they rushed over to help.
In a video posted by the baby’s mother, Shadow Lantry on her Facebook, it shows the inmates breaking into the SUV using a clothes hanger to pick the car’s lock. It was reported that the inmates were given permission to use their lock-picking skills to break into the car as the couple could not afford a locksmith.
The whole process took about five minutes and the baby girl was not hurt. Lantry said in her video, “Thank God for the criminals in the world. I respect y’all.” Since this was a rather unique situation, Pasco County Sheriff Chris Nocco said that the inmate was allowed to use his lock-picking skills as it was for the right reasons. He’s right!
“There’s only a very small percentage of those criminals out there that want to fight us and want to attack us, but a lot of them, like these individuals, they know they made bad mistakes, bad choices, but they want to do the right thing in life,” Nocco added.
