Deputy Minister of Communications Teo Nie Ching has announced that starting next month, the new Mandatory Standards for Quality of Service (MSQoS) for wireless broadband will come into effect in our country.

Introduced by her Ministry through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) on 29 December 2023 and going into effect on 1 April 2024, the new MSQoS requires that the average download speed must be at least 7.7Mbps.

The requirement will further increase to 10Mbps next year

Furthermore, the Deputy Communications Minister revealed that the requirement will also be further increased in 2025 to a minimum average download speed of 10Mbps.

Teo, who is also the Member of Parliament (MP) for Kulai, said the above in a reply to a supplementary question from Kuala Krai MP Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman about the Communications Ministry’s strategy to resolve internet service quality issues in the country, especially in Kelantan.

The original question to Teo during the Dewan Rakyat seating yesterday was from Tanjung Manis MP Yusuf Abd Wahab who wanted to know the telecommunication and internet coverage in Tanjong Manis, Sarawak.
