Starting from April 1, 2025 (Tuesday), traders will allegedly be prohibited from openly displaying cigarettes and vape products at business premises in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Penang.
The Keluar Sekejap podcast, hosted by politicians Khairy Jamaluddin and Shahril Hamdan, took to their X page to announce this new enforcement, which is in accordance with the Smoking Products Control Act for Public Health 2024 (Act 852).

They wrote, “The Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) is enforcing the Smoking Products Control Act for Public Health (Act 852) with the aim of controlling the sales and use of tobacco products for public health.”
“According to Act 852, tobacco and vape products must be stored in closed cabinets and cannot be displayed on open counters or shelves. In addition, traders can only use special signs to show that the products are available for sale.”
An exception is apparently made for stores that only sell cigarette and vape products, but they must ensure that their products are not visible to passersby outside.

“For shops that specifically sell cigarettes and vapes, their products can be displayed inside the shop, but these goods must not be clearly seen from the outside of the premises,” they explained.
Should anyone defy this new enforcement, they can expect to receive fines from the authorities.
“Individuals who violate this act can be fined between RM500 and RM30,000, while organisations can be fined up to RM300,000 or face imprisonment,” Keluar Sekejap added.
