Motorcycle riders have the advantage of designated lanes for their safety. Although road rules require them to use these lanes, many motorcyclists prioritise their personal convenience and choose to ride on highways to avoid roadblocks.
In a recent viral video shared by @update11111, an incident between a driver and a motorcyclist on the highway was captured on August 3rd (Saturday) at 8:50 in the morning.
Motorcyclists attempt to pass through the toll
In a dashcam video from the car owner, the driver is seen approaching the MyRFID (Radio-frequency identification) lane when one motorcyclist unexpectedly attempts to pass through the toll with him.
Upon reaching the toll, the driver stops to let the car in front of him pass through the barrier first before proceeding further.
The caption of the post reads,
“The toll is free and there are designated lanes for motorcycles, but because of fear of roadblocks (usually because they’re worried about their own unpaid road tax or modifications), they end up making things difficult for others without feeling any guilt.”
The motorcyclist waited for the reader to scan the car’s RFID tag
As the car in front passes through the gate and the driver attempts to proceed, he is surprised to see a motorcyclist squeezing in from the side, placing himself directly in front of the driver’s car.
The story continues as the motorcyclist waits for the reader to scan the driver’s RFID tag so he can pass through the toll gate.
As we all know by now, when any vehicle passes through an RFID lane, the RFID reader will automatically scan the tag on your vehicle before opening the toll gate and closing it after it detects a vehicle has gone through.
The driver was left stranded
In this case, after the driver’s RFID tag was scanned, the toll gate opened, allowing the motorcyclist to pass through. Unfortunately, the driver of the car was not so lucky as the barrier closed just before he could drive out.
In the video, the car owner explains that his RFID tag’s balance had been deducted and couldn’t be used again. Toll systems are designed to prevent the same tag from being scanned multiple times at the same location.
Coincidentally, another motorcyclist tried to trick the system just like the previous motorcyclist. He waited behind the driver’s car, hoping to pass through as well.
However, when the car got stuck, the driver had to reverse, forcing the 2nd motorcyclist to back up as well to make way.
Netizens were outraged by the motorcyclist’s actions, and their frustration quickly filled the comment section.
“To those blaming the driver, have you ever used RFID before? Unlike SMART Tag or Touch N Go, which require drivers to stop, RFID automatically scans your tag even if you’re driving slowly or stopped.”
“If it happened to me, I’d make sure that every cent deducted from my tag is considered haram because of the motorcyclist. I wouldn’t care less about what happens to him afterward.”
“How about banning motorcycles from highways? It would make things a lot easier.”
“I hope that after this incident, the police will start monitoring tolls more closely. If something like this happens again, they should immediately apprehend such riders, impound their motorcycles, revoke their licenses, issue fines, and even jail them if necessary to ensure they learn their lesson.”
However, some netizens are blaming the driver, insisting it’s his fault.
“The car driver should’ve used better judgment and stopped before the RFID reader scanned his tag.”
“The car driver should be more alert, and he should’ve blocked the motorcyclist from squeezing through.”
“The car driver should’ve been more alert. Why did he keep moving forward with the motorcyclist waiting right in front of him?”
